The Chart of Negotiating Our Future

Negotiating Our Future                                   Funded by the EU

Joint project between CCRR and school for peace

Our aim of this program is to gain an understanding of obstacles to a peaceful future for Palestinians and Israelis. The SFP and CCRR will initiate simulated negotiations between 30 Palestinian and 30 Israeli participants in order to examine how knowledge gained in the field of professional Jewish – Palestinian encounter work can contribute to political negotiations between the two peoples.

The participants will represent a broad sector of the population, giving voice to groups that are marginalized and usually overlooked in the negotiating process.  The entire process will be documented and accompanied by action research.  We will produce a working paper about the obstacles and the possibilities that we identify in the process.  The paper will be distributed widely to decision – makers in political and academic circles.

Overall Objectives:

·         To broaden both societies’ commitment to finding humane solutions to our conflict.

·         To create legitimate discourse about sensitive issues that are generally left for a “later stage” or for “final status negotiations.”  Dialogue would address issues that are often regarded as non – negotiable such as the Palestinian right of return, including Diaspora Palestinians and Palestinians from Israel in the negotiations, or negotiating with “terrorists” etc.

·         To create a setting for direct “track- two” negotiations and dialogue between teams which widely represent Jewish and Palestinian societies rather than working solely with elite groups.  This means giving a voice to groups that are generally marginalized in the official negotiating teams such as women, Mizrahim (Eastern Jews), refugees, prisoners, Palestinian citizens of Israel and others.....
