Young
Negotiators Program -2006-2007
Funded by WAR
CHILD
The proposed YNP targets the Palestinian
community, focusing on the West Bank area. We seek to reach schools of
the different systems, private, public and UNRWA schools. CCRR will
focus equally on schools in cities, villages, and camps. With school
principals, counselors, teachers, students, and their families, CCRR
involves all partners of the educational process.
Training
for approximately 950 educators in 31 schools, per school approximately
20 teachers plus the school’s social worker (each school usually has one
social worker who acts as school counselor). Each training will consist
of 20 hours of training, divided into several days, according to
agreement between schools and the Project Coordinator. The training
methods and subjects are comparable to the student training, but are
modified to fit the teachers. In addition, the teachers will discuss how
to apply their new skills, views or attitudes in the classroom.
Students
training session will consist of approximately six training days (total
of 30 hours per school). Training will explore the use of different
methods and concepts: drama, communication, non-violence, social peace,
changing attitudes, responsibility towards community, dealing with angry
people, helping each other, negotiation techniques, etc. All the
training is conducted in an inter-active and creative way.
The main target group
is Palestinian adolescents. Specifically, we will target school children
from about 12 to 16 years old. At this young age, teenagers are in a
sensitive transforming stage of adolescence that will have great effects
on their life. It is a critical age to introduce the values of
non-violence, human rights and democracy to them. This will have a great
impact on students and will continue to influence them
throughout their growing process. What they
learn will be transferred through them to the next generation and to
their fellow students, families and friends.
A second target group
is teachers in Palestinian schools. Training them will influence their
behavior within their extended families. Teachers as individuals are a
large and influential part of the Palestinian society and it therefore
makes sense to choose them as target group. More importantly, through
their position, teachers have tremendous influence on a large part of
the future generation.... |
