The
DED:
The German Development
Service (DED, Deutscher Entwicklungsdienst) was founded in 1963. It is
one of the leading European development services for personnel
cooperation. The DED’s major stakeholder is the German Government. Since
its foundation, more than 13,000 DED experts have committed themselves
to improving the living conditions of people in Latin America, Africa
and Asia. Over 1,000 DED experts are currently working in approximately
40 countries. The DED maintains an office in its partner countries,
generally in the capital. In June 2003, the DED started working in the
Palestinian Territories. Their head office is located in Ramallah at the
“German House for Development Cooperation” in Al-Bireh.
They share the “German
House for Development Cooperation” with the following partner
organizations: CIM, GTZ, KfW, and InWent. Together they implement the
development policy formulated by the German Federal Ministry for
Economic Cooperation and Development in an integrated and complementary
fashion.
The DED regards the
limits placed on Palestinian sovereignty to be a drawback to development
cooperation. At the same time; however, the DED believes that
development and peace are two sides of the same coin. In its quest to
contribute to peace and development in Palestine, the DED has identified
four possible target areas: Solid Waste Management, Water Resources
Management, Vocational Training and the Strengthening of Civil Society.
CCRR and the DED:
Since June 2003, DED has
supported the CCRR within the scope of the Civil Peace. The DED expert
assists CCRR in program and in organizational development. Also, the DED
expert works who unlike local colleagues can cross local borders helps
in networking the CCRR with other organizations. Working in close
partnership, CCRR and DED succeeded in extending CCRR’s activities from
the educational sector to media. Also, the partners introduced new
mechanisms in project planning, monitoring and evaluation
