About Pax Christi:

Pax Christi is an international movement for peace and reconciliation, non-violence and human rights. President of the Dutch Section of Pax Christi is A. van Luyn sdb, bishop of Rotterdam. In the Netherlands Pax Christi counts nearly 10.000 members who give voice to grassroots aspirations for peace and justice. Pax Christi seeks to take this inspiration through reflection, study and concrete action. High priorities are placed on peace education and the promotion of a peace culture in Dutch society. Each year, together with the Dutch Interchurch Peace Council, Pax Christi takes the lead in the Peace Week, during which churches pay special attention to questions of peace and justice. Pax Christi has its Chapel, right in the busy shopping and transport heart of the city of Utrecht. It offers the opportunity for prayer and mediation and pastoral care for those who seek it. Breaking out of cycles of violence and revenge.

Pax Christi has a special commitment to the victims of violence, peace groups, parties in conflict looking for peace and reconciliation and socially committed religious leaders. Since its foundation over 50 years ago, Pax Christi has been helping to find ways out of cycles of violence by bringing together opposing parties. It does so by expressing solidarity through concrete action:

calling for dialogue;

organising capacity training for young people, women and NGO's;

supporting local civil peace initiatives in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America;

lobbying international organizations.

Pax Christi has special consultative status at the United Nations in New York and Vienna, the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva, the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and UNESCO in Paris.
