War Child Netherlands:

War Child Netherlands is a Dutch non-profit organization, and is part of a network of independent organizations working across the world to support children affected by armed conflicts. War Child Netherlands has it headquarters in Amsterdam, with projects in Africa, The Balkans, The Caucasus, Asia, and Latin America. War Child aims to enhance the normal development of children and to prevent future disorders resulting from war and conflict. War Child focuses on strengthening protective factors in the environment of the child and helping children develop their own ability to cope with negative experiences.

War Child programs are empowerment oriented, which means that they focus on strengthening and revitalizing communities so that they can (re-) build their own capacity to find sustainable solutions for the problems of the children. Programs are developed with community members whose perceptions of children’s priority needs, as well as their understanding of cultural context, contribute to project design. Furthermore, community members are actively engaged in the implementation of projects. War Child recognizes that values and practices in child rearing, and ideas about child development and psychosocial problems, are different within different cultures.

War Child raises public awareness on children’s issues effected by on-going or recent conflict and also advocates for children to influence policy and practice at the grassroots level, nationally as well as internationally.
