The Option of Nonviolence

Holding a preparation workshop for the trainers:

The aim of the Young Negotiator Program is to provide the Palestinian youth and educators with values of peace, non-violence, human rights, democracy and tools for non-violent conflict resolution. At the same time, the action aims to provide a safe environment for critical discussion on subjects concerning the political situation, such as the future of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a Palestinian state, borders, refugees, settlements, etc. The target group is Palestinian youth (age 15 to 16) and their educators from different towns and villages, especially remote areas, throughout West Bank. During 2006/2007 we held workshops in 40 schools for teachers, counselors, and students. It included a variety of interactive activities, providing new tools and offering critical discussion.

In August 2007 a preparation workshop was held for the trainers. It was an intensive two days with twenty experienced trainers/facilitators from different areas of the West Bank. The workshop involved many different activities; the trainers were first asked to discuss the pros and cons of the Young Negotiator Program in order that the project might be improved in the future. Secondly, the latest venture, the Women's Project, was introduced, with a general discussion about gender and then more focused attention on the format and content of the workshops. Finally, the workshop was briefly evaluated and plans were made for future meetings.
