The Young Negotiators Project (YNP)

The broad objective of the proposed project is to contribute to peace in Palestine. The specific aim of the ‘Young Negotiators Project’ (YNP) is to provide Palestinian adolescents and their educators with values of peace, non-violence, human rights, democracy and tools for non-violent conflict resolution. At the same time, the project aims to provide a safe environment for open discussions on subjects concerning the educator-student, educator-educator, educator-principal, and student-student relations. The target group is Palestinian adolescents and their educators from different towns and villages, especially remote areas, throughout the West Bank. The main activities will be workshops in 31 schools – in each school 20 hours for the teachers, the school director and the social worker of the school, and 30 hours for the students. The latter will be trained by the school social worker with the assistance of CCRR’s trainers. There will be a variety of interactive activities, providing new tools and offering critical discussions. The workshops will be conducted by CCRR’s director, an expert in conflict resolution, and 4 full-time trainers from the different geographic areas.

The Young Negotiator Project follows War Child’s strategy for the Middle East. Working with local partners, building technical capacities and exchange expertise is one of the strategy choices of War Child for the region. During the implementation of the project, War Child will assist through offering technical support and strengthening other capacities of CCRR. At the same time CCRR will share its experience and knowledge in the field of Peace Building to the War Child partners interested.

In the strategy document WC focuses on strengthening protective factors of adolescents (12 to 18 years of age). The program addresses the specific problems related to the protective factors of adolescents as:
• Life skills of adolescents (e.g. teaching them non-violent conflict resolution skills; increasing self-esteem)
• Adult support (e.g. increasing teachers understanding and support for adolescents’ problems; in crease skills of teachers to teach non-violence)
• Peer interaction (e.g. teaching adolescents positive ways of interacting with each other)
• A safer, more peaceful environment (increasing awareness and support for non violence in Palestinian society)
