THE OPTION OF NONVIOLENCE                                                May 2003

Arabs says, for each position or event there is a saying, and for each country government its men. Much was said on reasons and tools differences, but we only remember what’s been said after its too late.

Here I remember and I wish to remind you that all parties, leaderships, and those responsible in historical level or at the time being in the entire world are doing what is called assessing from time to time, and they call it politically, the assessment of the political stage, and talking lessons from the events… and we the Palestinian are in great need specially at these days to pause and assess our struggling history in all its political, military, organizational, and theoretical stages, putting aside all the matters that do not suite the new coming stage, and the new position, and the country new balances, and what is called by the power balances. I think that the most important reason for this assessment pause is the current situation that the Palestinians are living, where all signs lead us to see that he/she reached the frustration degree, not trusting all that is going around him /her, and not trusting all plans, and political steps under any title, ex. The road map, peretz plan, or the quarto committee…

which hold no meaning to the normal Palestinian citizen, if we don’t consider his position, and care to improve his living circumstances and respect his humanity by all sides.

I don’t mention all that to increase people frustration, or to submit to the circumstances, but for our leaders to stop a truly and courageously, and look where they’ve been wrong, or right, and what can be fixed and what cant, to talk to the normal citizen frankly and truly, to apologies where we made mistakes, and ask for forgiveness, as we must do that, and take lessons from those more experienced than us, because the citizen has the right to know what those who represent him/her thinks, what they plan for, and what they hold for the future, as they are there to serve him/her and accomplish his/her ambitions, and provide security and respectable life for him/her, the citizens must know what they intend to do, how and when, to prepare themselves to support them where they can....
